In preparation for the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11th in Imo State, the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) Imo State branch convened a significant summit under the theme “IMO FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS.” The summit, which took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Owerri, aimed to sensitize political party leaders and their gubernatorial candidates about the paramount importance of fostering peaceful elections and maintaining a harmonious atmosphere before, during, and after the electoral process.

Imo State Chairman of IPAC, Ichie Levi Eke, delivered a passionate message during the summit, stressing the imperative to eschew violence throughout the electoral process. Eke, a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape, emphasized that with the government’s efforts in tackling insecurity, political parties must not contribute to political unrest and fear among the electorate. He made it clear that elections and campaigns should not be considered a do-or-die affair, but rather an opportunity for citizens to choose their preferred candidates without coercion. In his view, all political leaders should regard each other as partners in progress, collaborating with the eventual winner for the betterment of Imo State.

Hon. MacDonald Ebere, the State Party Chairman of Imo APC, in an interview with the press following the event, expressed his commitment to share the knowledge gained from the summit with the entire leadership and members of the Imo APC. Drawing inspiration from the Shared Prosperity Governor of Imo State, Dist. Sen Hope Uzodimma, who has been resolute in addressing security challenges in the State, Ebere promised that the government would implement stringent security measures to ensure that voters can exercise their franchise without fear or favor. Even with the incumbent Governor’s name on the ballot, he assured Imolites that relevant security agencies would be deployed to guarantee the credibility, freedom, and fairness of the election.

Ebere also seized the opportunity to highlight the numerous accomplishments of Governor Uzodimma. He praised the administration’s achievements in healthcare, agriculture, rural and urban road construction, timely payment of salaries and pensions, and its commitment to equipping the youth with digital skills. MacDonald Ebere urged Imolites to consider giving Governor Uzodimma another chance to continue the remarkable work initiated during his first term.

The summit’s high point was the opportunity afforded to gubernatorial candidates from various political parties in the state to present their manifestos and plans for the people of Imo State. Even those candidates who couldn’t attend in person sent representatives to convey their vision for Imo’s future. The consensus reached among these candidates, demonstrating their commitment to harmony and unity, holds the promise of the freest and most credible election in modern Imo’s history.

Hon MacDonald Ebere, and the former State Party Chairman of Imo APC, Prince Marcon Nlemigbo represented the All Progressives Congress at the event.

The IPAC-led initiative aims to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections in Imo State, with all political leaders emphasizing the importance of non-violence and cooperation for the betterment of the state.

The commitment of the Imo APC Chairman, Hon. MacDonald Ebere, to secure elections and his glowing appraisal of Governor Uzodimma’s achievements further contribute to the anticipation of a positive and prosperous future for Imo State.
