JUST IN: The Senate to issue arrest warrants for the Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack; Minister of Works, David Umahi; & the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission , Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for failing to appear before its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, & Public Petitions.
The Nigerian Senate is taking serious action against some top government officials who failed to appear before its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
The officials in question are Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack; Minister of Works, David Umahi; and Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate has the power to issue arrest warrants, as provided by Section 89 of the 1999 Constitution.
This decision was made after Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, expressed frustration over the repeated disregard of the Senate’s invitations by these officials.
Other agencies whose heads risk arrest warrants include Union Homes Savings and Loans Plc, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, and Sally Best Properties Limited. Fresh letters of invitation have been sent to the affected officials, warning that arrest warrants will be issued if they fail to appear
