The Kano State Police Command has arrested three persons for allegedly being in possession of counterfeit currencies amounting to N129,542,826,000.
Addressing newsmen at a press briefing on Tuesday, December 10, the command’s spokesperson, SP Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that the suspects were arrested on December 1 based on credible information received from a Good Samaritan.
“Following credible information received from a good Samaritan on the activities of a notorious fraudster around Gwale LGA, Kano State, one Ahmad Abdullahi, ‘m’, 30 years old of Kaga LGA, Borno State.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Gwale Division Kano, SP Abdurrahim Adamu to lead a team of detectives and ensure the arrest of the suspect.
The team succeeded in arresting one Nura Ibrahim, ‘m’, 26 years old, of Sharada Quarters, Kano. Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Mohammed Muktar, ‘m’, 35 years old of Hotoro Quarters Kano. Discreet investigation conducted at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ahmad Abdullahi, ‘m’, 30 years old, of Kaga LGA, Borno State.
During the course of the investigation, counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of One Hundred and Twenty-nine Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-two Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty-three Thousand Naira (N129,542,823,000) were recovered,” he said.
The PPRO gave the breakdown of the fake currencies as $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000 and N1,443,000.
