Kim Jong Un marked Vladimir Putin’s birthday by sending him a message, calling him his “closest comrade.”

The North Korean leader congratulated his Russian counterpart, who turned 72 on Monday, October 7, and expressed confidence that relations between their two countries would reach new heights.

The relationship between North Korea and Russia has dramatically intensified since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, raising serious concerns in the West over this growing alliance.

Last year, the two leaders met in Pyongyang, where Vladimir Putin sought military support from his ally. Earlier this year, they met again to sign a strategic agreement, further strengthening their ties.

Additionally, Kim Jong-un reiterated his desire for North Korea to quickly become a nuclear power.

“Meetings and comradely ties between us… will make a positive contribution to further consolidating the eternal foundation of the DPRK-Russia friendship”, reported North Korea’s state media KCNA, according to Yonhap News.
