In a significant ruling, the Kumasi High Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by 40 Chief Inspectors against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The officers alleged they were unfairly denied promotions within the Ghana Police Service after being excluded from a special amnesty program aimed at promoting degree-holding officers who qualified before 2020.

Key Points of the Case:
The Chief Inspectors, who have dedicated 25 to 30 years of service, argued that they were wrongfully omitted from the promotion scheme while junior colleagues benefitted.

They claimed that not being allowed entry into the Police Academy was a significant barrier to their advancement to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Court’s Decision
Despite their claims, the court ruled against the officers, raising questions about the fairness and implications of the promotion process within the police service.

What’s Next?
This ruling highlights the ongoing discussions about equity and promotion standards within the Ghana Police Service. Many are now questioning the criteria for such promotions and what it means for long-serving officers.
