A devastating landslide in southern Ethiopia has claimed the lives of at least 146 people, with the death toll expected to rise further.

The disaster occurred on Monday morning in the Geze-Gofa district of the Gofa zone, following heavy rains in the mountainous region.

Local official Habtamu Fetena confirmed the latest death toll, stating that 96 men and 50 women have been found deceased.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with search teams working vigorously to locate survivors.

The affected area is located approximately 450 kilometers north of the capital Addis Ababa.
