Bayer Leverkusen winger Amine Adli will miss the remainder of 2024 after suffering a fractured left fibula during the team’s 1-1 Champions League draw against Brest.
The club confirmed on Thursday that the 24-year-old will undergo surgery and is expected to be sidelined until January 2025.
Adli sustained the injury 18 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute, leaving the field in visible pain following a tackle.
The reigning Bundesliga champions coach Xabi Alonso expressed his disappointment, stating, “We are sad for Amine, it doesn’t look good,” calling the injury “the worst news of the day.”
The Moroccan international’s absence is a significant blow to Leverkusen, who face five matches over the next 16 days.
Adli has been a key player for the Bundesliga champions, featuring in all 11 of their matches across competitions this season.
