The 1975 frontman Matty Healy announced his engagement to singer and model Gabbriette Bechtel on Wednesday, about nine months after the pair began dating and just two months after fans speculated that several songs on Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” were about her brief relationship with Healy.
On June 11, Bechtel and Healy both shared photos of Bechtel wearing an engagement ring to their Instagram stories.
Healy reportedly attended British singer Charli XCX’s Tuesday night concert in Brooklyn with Bechtel, and announced their engagement through an Instagram story post hours later. Healy reposted a photo Bechtel shared of her engagement ring, captioned: “Marrying the 1975 is very brat,” a reference to Charli XCX’s latest album, “Brat.” Healy’s mother Welch confirmed the engagement on talk show “Loose Women” Wednesday morning, stating she has known about the engagement for several weeks and praised Bechtel as “absolutely gorgeous” and “everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.”
