As part of ongoing efforts to transition artisan miners in Niger State and safeguard them from the risks of mine collapses and exposure to hazardous substances like lead poisoning, Niger State Governor, Farmer Umaru Bago, is presently in São Paulo, Brazil.

The purpose of his visit is to facilitate and encourage partnership that will improve the mining sector within the state.

This project is intended to provide miners with standardized equipment that adheres to safety and operational guidelines, thereby promoting economic growth while also prioritizing environmental protection and sustainability.

In his announcement, the Governor highlighted that his administration intends to organize the miners into cooperatives.

Responsible Mining entails ethical practices, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, balancing productivity with a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility

This initiative is designed not only to improve their working conditions but also to promote the collective marketing of their products. By establishing these cooperatives, the government plans to create a structured framework for mining that enables artisans to sell their products more efficiently and sustainably, while simultaneously mitigating the risks associated with their work.

This project is anticipated to uplift the livelihoods of the miners and promote safer mining practices throughout Niger State.
