The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has commenced a formal investigation into an incident where a female traveler, identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, was seen destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, prompted the Comptroller General of Immigration to order an investigation.

Mrs. Igiebor, who holds passport number A11990869, has been invited for questioning.

According to the NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, if the allegations are confirmed, Mrs. Igiebor’s actions would violate Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015, and she would face penalties outlined in Section 10(h) of the same Act.

The NIS has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Immigration Act, ensuring national security, and preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s legal instruments.

The investigation is ongoing.
