Nigerian Dentist Challenges TikToker Jarvis’s N30m GoFundMe for Mouth Tumor Surgery
A Nigerian dentist, @Dentalgiorgio, has disputed the N30 million GoFundMe campaign created by TikToker Jarvis for her mouth tumor surgery, calling it an outrageous amount. According to the dentist, the surgery can be performed at his center for just N200,000, with additional costs for tests, biopsy, admission, and feeding not exceeding N500,000.
The dentist’s statement was corroborated by another user, @Phatill, who shared her experience at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where she paid N405,000 for a similar surgery last year. She criticized the excessive fundraising, saying “Social media is a hard drug”.
The controversy surrounding Jarvis’s GoFundMe page has sparked debate about the transparency and accountability of crowdfunding campaigns. While Jarvis’s situation highlights the urgent need for medical attention, the disparity between the requested amount and actual costs has raised questions.
