Nigeria Deploys Troops to The Gambia

Peacekeeping Mission: The Nigerian government has deployed 197 personnel from the Armed Forces of Nigeria for a peacekeeping mission in The Gambia

Pre-Deployment Training: The troops underwent a pre-deployment training at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State

ECOMIG Mandate: The Nigerian contingent, Nigerian Company 9 ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (NIGCOY 9 ECOMIG), is part of the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG)

Mission Objective: The mission aims to maintain peace and stability in The Gambia, which faces a period of uncertainty and instability

Training and Preparation:  The troops received training in the latest techniques and procedures for maintaining peace and stability in a complex environment, including human rights, teamwork, leadership, and cultural sensitivity

Command and Leadership: The Chief of Operations, Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Boniface Sinjen, and the Commandant of MLAILPKC, Maj-Gen. Ademola Adedoja, oversaw the training and deployment process
