A statement from NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, released on Saturday in Abuja, revealed that the site was uncovered by the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CGsSIS). The commander of the special squad, Mr Dandaura Appolos, attributed the success of the operation to credible intelligence reports.

Appolos expressed gratitude to the informants, emphasizing the careful handling of received information. Upon reaching the site, it was observed that the suspects had connected galvanized metal pipes with large hoses to syphon crude oil for local processing.

Despite the suspects fleeing upon the team’s arrival, one individual, 32-year-old Godspower Oyibo from Delta, was apprehended and is currently assisting with further investigations. Exhibits seized from the site include pumping machines, metal pipes, hoses, vandalized well heads, and stolen crude oil worth 100,000 liters stored in reservoirs. Additionally, calibrated surface tanks, processed AGO in cooking pots, and metal buckets were confiscated.

NSCDC spokesperson reassured the public of the organization’s commitment to sustaining its efforts against vandalism and crude oil theft nationwide.
