OGIEC Disclaims Fake News On Purported Plans To Hold Council Polls In October

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission on Sunday dissociated itself from a purported plan to hold local government elections in October this year.

The Commission was reacting to a news item circulating online, allegedly emanating from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), tagged ‘Notice of the Year 2024 Local Government Elections
In Ogun State.’

It quoted the chairman of the commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, as saying thar elections into the 20 local governments and 236 Wards in the state will be conducted on 26 October 2024.

The OGIEC, in its statement, said no date has been set for the conduct of council polls.

It described the circulating information as the handiwork of fake news merchants, urging the general public to disregard it.

The statement noted that the public will be appropriately informed anytime elections into the third tier of government is scheduled to take place, adding that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration is not unmindful of the importance of the local governments as the harbinger of development, being closer to the people.
