Ogun Customs generate over 4bn in January, discovers four unauthorized companies

The Ogun II Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, says it has generated over 4bn as revenue for the month of January 2025.

The figure represents a significant increase of 104% compared to the corresponding period last year.

The Customs Area Controller, Olusola Alade, disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference held in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Alade added that the command also discovered four unauthorized factories operating without proper license and permits in Ota axis of the state.

The factories are, Evita Moore, Lekan Industries, Scarlet Eagle Ltd and IBK Ventures.

The Area controller maintained that the \ attainment is an evidence of the commands commitment to the growth of the national economy.

Alade while praising the officers for their diligence, professionalism and dedication in ensuring that revenue target given to the command are met and exceeded, appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adeniyi and the Nigeria Customs Service management team for their unflinching support.

His words, “ It may interest you to know that the command generated, the sum of four billion, three hundred and thirty-five million, three hundred, twenty-three thousand and fifty-three kobo 4,000,335,323.53kb as revenue for the month of January, 2025.

“This can be compared to two billion, one hundred and thirty-five million, two hundred and seventy-six thousand, six hundred- and seventy-six-naira, eighty-six kobo N2,135,276.673.86kb generated in the corresponding period of last year, 2024. There is a differential of N1,865,058,649.67 which is a significant increase of 104%.

“This is to say that the command generates the total sum of Thirty-two billion four hundred and sixty-one million, four hundred and fifty-eight thousand, eight hundred and fifty-eight naira and fifty-nine kobo (N 32,461,458,858.59kb) Last year.

“And recently the Command discovered about Four (4) unauthorized factories operating without proper license and permits but the Command took necessary action and brought them under excise control, and they are in different stages of registration” he added.

Alade assured that the command will continue to dialogue, engage and educate stakeholders and local business communities, soliciting the cooperation of various factories with their timely payment of appropriate exercise duties and other charges payable.

Trailer crashes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the outbound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning following a trailer accident near the Berger axis in Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours, involved a lone trailer transporting a container that overturned and completely obstructed the outward-bound carriageway.

As of the time of filing this report, vehicular movement had been halted for over an hour, with the traffic gridlock extending from the Berger Bridge to the Old Toll Gate near 7Up.

The disruption has forced some motorists to drive against traffic on the inward-bound lane, further compounding the congestion.

Emergency response teams were yet to fully clear the obstruction and restore normal flow as of press time.

NAF strikes several terrorists’ enclaves in Sambisa, Southern Tumbus

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, says its personnel, under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, OPHK, on April 15, 2025, executed 2 highly successful air interdiction missions, targeting terrorist strongholds in Borno State’s Sambisa general area and the Southern Tumbuns.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force.in a statement said the first strike occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. in Kollaram, a known stronghold of insurgents.

Intelligence reports, supported by surveillance footage, confirmed the presence of high-value terrorist commanders in the area.

It said several structures, some equipped with solar panels, were identified as active terrorist hubs.

Nigerian Air Force assets carried out a precision strike on the location, eliminating several fighters and disabling key infrastructure.

A second precision strike followed at about 3:55pm in Arra, Sambisa. Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions had earlier detected clusters of terrorists, and real-time visuals confirmed the significant presence. Precision-guided munitions were employed, resulting in the effective destruction of targets and disruption of the group’s operational capabilities.

These back-to-back missions are part of a sustained air campaign designed to erode terrorist capabilities, dismantle leadership structures, and eliminate sanctuaries across Nigeria.

The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to ensuring that no location within the country offers safe haven to terrorists.

STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT TINUBU’S RETURN TO NIGERIA

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully engaged in Nigeria’s governance even though he is away in Europe.

His absence remains temporary and in line with the communicated timeframe of approximately two weeks.

The President left Paris for London at the weekend and has maintained constant communication with key government officials, overseeing critical national matters, including directives to security chiefs to address emerging threats in some parts of the country.

His return to Abuja and the resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday.

The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership.
