Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has intervened in a controversial case involving a young man sentenced to death for stealing a fowl.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke expressed his concern over the severity of the sentence and instructed the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to begin a full investigation into the matter.
The case, which has sparked widespread outrage, involves a young man arrested in 2010 and sentenced to death by hanging in 2014.
Many people have questioned whether the punishment is proportional, given the relatively minor nature of the offense.
Adeleke reassured the public that the issue was receiving his direct attention, highlighting the importance of fairness and the protection of human life.
He stated, “Osun is a land of justice and equity, and we must ensure that our justice system reflects these values.”
The governor’s decision to review the case has been applauded by many, who view it as a step toward ensuring that justice is delivered fairly and compassionately.
