Yemisi Ogunleye made history for Germany, clinching the gold medal in the women’s shot put at the Paris Olympics with a thrilling final throw of 20.00m.

The 25-year-old’s victory marked a stunning conclusion to the competition, as she edged out New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche, who achieved a personal best of 19.86m with her fifth throw.

Ogunleye’s winning throw came on her sixth and final attempt, showcasing her nerves of steel and unwavering focus under pressure.

Her gold medal marks a significant milestone in her career, adding to her impressive collection of medals, including silver at the 2024 World Indoor Championships and bronze at the European Championships in Rome earlier this year.

China’s Song Jiayuan took home the bronze with a throw of 19.32m, while the USA’s Jaida Ross narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a throw of 19.23m.

Reigning Tokyo gold medalist Gong Lijiao of China, a three-time Olympic medalist, settled for fifth place with a throw of 19.17m.

Ogunleye’s victory marks a triumphant moment for Germany in the women’s shot put, as she becomes the first German athlete to win gold in the event since 1992.

Nigeria’s Flamingos sealed a place in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after holding Algeria to a 0-0 draw in Blida.

Bankole Olowookere’s side won the final qualifying round contest 4-0 on aggregate.

The Flamingos dominated the second leg tie but were let down by their poor finishing.

The wintry conditions in Blida also made things difficult for the girls.

Algeria came close to winning the game one minute from time but were denied by the woodwork.

The Flamingos were eliminated by the United States of America at the quarter-final stage of the last edition of the competition.

This year’s edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will kick off on October 17 in Morocco.

Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick has named his side’s squad to face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday night.

This year’s Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Real Madrid will take place at Seville’s Estadio La Cartuja.

Barcelona head into the game following a 1-0 victory over Mallorca in their last LaLiga fixture, while Real Madrid also secured a 1-0 win against Getafe.

Flick has named a squad that includes the likes of Lamine Yamal, Ter Stegen, and Pedri to face Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
