The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a statement to clarify that its recent operation at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) secretariat in Abuja was not a raid on the labour union.

Instead, it was a targeted operation to apprehend a suspected criminal.

According to NPF spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, detectives traced a suspect to a shop in the Centre Business District of Abuja, which happened to be located within the NLC building.

The operation, conducted with appropriate legal authority, aimed to capture a foreign national implicated in numerous criminal activities across Nigeria and other African countries.

The police emphasized that the NLC secretariat, staff, and leadership were not the focus of the operation and that the investigation was crucial for national security and safety.

The NPF seeks the cooperation and support of the NLC leadership and urges Nigerians to remain vigilant and conduct security profiling of individuals seeking to rent space within their premises.
