Polytechnic Lecturers Issue 15-Day Ultimatum to FG

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given the Federal Government a 15-day ultimatum to address pressing issues affecting the polytechnic sector. The ultimatum, starting October 7 and ending October 25, 2024, may lead to industrial action if unresolved.

Key Demands:

– _Reversal of Impunity_: Review and reverse decisions inconsistent with the Federal Polytechnics Act
– _Schemes of Service_: Commence review of suspended 2023 document
– _NEEDS Assessment_: Release second tranche of intervention funds
– _Academic Allowance_: Include negotiated allowance in budget
– _Salary Review_: Implement approved 25/35% salary review
-Promotion Arrears: Release outstanding promotion arrears

ASUP’s National President, Shammah Kpanja, urged state chapters to stage peaceful protests and media campaigns  within the ultimatum period.

Next Steps:

If the FG fails to address these demands, ASUP’s NEC will reconvene to decide on further action, potentially including withdrawal of services.
