President Bola Tinubu is currently in a meeting with the newly appointed sole administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Vice Admiral Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, arrived at the State House at about 12:50 pm for the meeting, which comes just hours after the President imposed a state of emergency on the oil-rich state over prolonged political crises.
As part of his declaration, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State’s House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
In their place, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibas as sole administrator, with a mandate to oversee governance but not to enact new laws.
The president emphasised that the State’s judiciary would continue to function independently.
