Prince Williams attends royal ascot with Kate Middleton’s parents

It was the Middleton’s first public appearance since their daughter’s cancer announcement.

Just days after making a radiant return at this year’s Trooping the Colour, Kate Middleton was notably absent as her parents, Prince William, and a number of other key royals made an appearance at the Royal Ascot. On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales joined Queen Camila, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and Zara and Mike Tindall at the prestigious equestrian race, along with Carole and Michael Middleton – who were seen chatting and catching up with their son-in-law on the second day of the event.

Despite Kate’s absence at the Royal Ascot, her parents’ appearance was notable as it marked their first public event since she announced that she’s undergoing chemotherapy for cancer in March.

The Middletons were seen talking to members of the royal crowd as well as William, who was photographed speaking closely to them and even holding Carole’s hand in the Parade Ring ahead of the race.

Only time will tell whether Kate’s parents will get more involved in public-facing duties and events as the Princess of Wales and King Charles both go through cancer treatment, but it highlighted reports from the Palace that emphasized that Kate’s surprising Trooping the Colour appearance didn’t mean she was returning to work.
