Paris Saint-Germain’s hopes for a fairytale farewell for Kylian Mbappe took a bitter turn as they bowed out of the Champions League following a stunning defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

The French striker’s dream of bidding adieu to PSG with a triumph at Wembley in the final was dashed after Dortmund secured a 2-0 aggregate victory on Tuesday.

Mbappe, set to depart PSG after seven remarkable years, had envisioned leading the Qatari-backed club to their maiden Champions League glory before his impending move, with Real Madrid looming as his probable destination.

Despite being favorites, PSG couldn’t overturn their one-goal deficit from the first leg, with Mats Hummels’ sole goal sealing Dortmund’s triumph at the Parc des Princes.

The defeat leaves PSG grappling with the disappointment of falling short of their Champions League aspirations once again, reminiscent of their defeat against Bayern Munich in 2020.

For Mbappe, who holds the record as PSG’s leading scorer, it marks a missed opportunity to lift the coveted European trophy with his hometown club.
