The House of Representatives has ordered the FCT Police Command to immediately stop harassing motorists and release vehicles impounded for violations related to tinted glasses or covered number plates, as long as no other offenses are involved.
Lawmakers also directed the police to issue a 90-day grace period for vehicle owners to comply with regulations.
The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture was instructed to launch a public awareness campaign to educate citizens on the rules and permit procedures.
This decision followed a motion by Rep. Tolani Shagaya, who criticized the sudden enforcement for causing undue hardship and economic losses.
The House emphasized the need for security measures to respect citizens’ rights and allow reasonable compliance time.
