The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a clandestine facility used for storing illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State.
The storage site, located in the Elelewo community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, was found to contain large tanks and containers filled with the illicit fuel.
Leading the operation, NSCDC Rivers State Commandant Joachim Okafor revealed that the discovery was made by the Command’s Anti-Vandal Unit, which deployed advanced technology to track illegal crude oil activities.
Okafor emphasized that the operation was a part of ongoing efforts to curb the menace of crude oil theft in the region.
The NSCDC Commandant highlighted the severe consequences of such illegal operations, noting that they not only pose a significant threat to the nation’s economy but also contribute to serious environmental pollution and health risks for local communities.
The NSCDC remains committed to intensifying efforts to combat oil theft and mitigate its harmful impact on the country.
