The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has distanced itself from a group of protesters in northern Nigeria who were seen displaying Russian flags.

The demonstrators, who marched through several areas, were seen carrying these flags and chanting slogans, with some holding various placards.

Russia has been accused of interfering in the political unrest affecting several West African nations, such as Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, sparking fears of foreign intervention in regional issues.

The Embassy clarified that Russia does not engage in the internal matters of other countries, including Nigeria, and that the actions of these protesters do not reflect any official Russian government policy.

The Embassy emphasized that neither the Russian government nor any officials are involved in or support these activities.

It further stated that the decision of individuals to wave Russian flags is their personal choice and does not indicate any official position or policy from the Russian government.

While respecting Nigerian democratic processes and peaceful demonstrations, Russia condemned any actions leading to disruptions or violence.
