Russia is firmly refusing to engage in nuclear discussions with the United States due to the latter’s push to expand NATO to additional countries.
This year, the military defense organization welcomed two new members—Sweden in March and Finland in April—but Russia views this expansion as a significant threat.
Earlier this week, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that Russia will not sign a new treaty with the U.S. to regulate each country’s nuclear arsenal.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons.
