The men’s triathlon at the Paris Olympics has been postponed due to persistently high pollution levels in the Seine River.

The competition, initially scheduled for Tuesday, will now take place on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m., following the women’s event.

Despite efforts to improve water quality, bacteria levels remain above acceptable limits, forcing organizers to make the tough decision.

The 55 affected triathletes face further uncertainty, with a potential further postponement to Friday if conditions don’t improve.

The setback raises questions about the legacy of the Games, particularly the ambitious goal of making the Seine swimmable.

Paris authorities invested heavily in wastewater infrastructure, but the gamble on water quality has yet to pay off.
