Senate Reviews Qualifications Of Seven New Ministers Nominated By President Tinubu

The Senate has officially commenced the screening process for seven newly nominated ministers as part of a recent cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu.

The nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu for Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development.

Additionally, Idi Muktar Maiha has been nominated for Minister of Livestock Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.

During the session, the Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, moved a motion to temporarily suspend Senate rules, allowing the Special Adviser to the President on Senate matters, Basheer Lado, to present the nominees for screening at 12:57 PM on Wednesday.

Senate President GodsWill Akpabio formally announced the nominations after reading the letter from President Tinubu.

This follows the dismissal of five ministers as part of the cabinet reshuffle, which included the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju-Ken Ohanenye; the Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John; the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman; the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo; and the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim.

The screening process is expected to provide insights into the qualifications and readiness of the new nominees to assume their respective roles in the government.
