In a heart-wrenching tale of desperation and deceit, 24-year-old Blessing Okonkwo has been arrested for selling her 3-year-old sibling, Friday Okonkwo, for a staggering N410,000 in Adamawa State.
The young woman’s actions were driven by her desire to raise funds for her traditional wedding and start a business .
According to reports, Blessing tricked her mother, Hauwa Lawan, into handing over the child, claiming she would enroll him in a school in Mubi, 40 kilometers away .
Instead, she sold him to human trafficker Efunaya Nabufe, who transported him to Enugu city .
The mother, who had been kept in the dark for over a year, only discovered the truth when Blessing’s fiancé’s father asked about the child’s whereabouts before proceeding with the wedding plans .
Blessing’s confession revealed that she used the proceeds to buy a grinding machine and gave her boyfriend N200,000 for their wedding expenses .
