In a bid to promote the 90-day window period for the regularisation of import duties on specific categories of vehicles, the Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command recently organised a workshop for members of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), Sokoto Chapter at the Headquarters of the command in Sokoto.

In a press statement signed by Abdullahi Abubakar on 14 May, 2024 by the Public Relations Officer of the command, on behalf of Comptroller Kamal Mohammad, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), noted that the sensitisation was organised due to the significant role that AMDON members play in the importation and sales of vehicles across the country.

The statement reads, “The involvement of AMDON members in the workshop was due to their critical roles in the vehicle business.”

The statement explained that Comptroller Mohammad noted that the 90-day window period, which began on March 4, 2024, and will run until July 5, 2024, is an initiative under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi. “This initiative aims to enhance compliance with customs regulations,” he emphasised.

During the workshop, participants were educated about the two categories covered by this window period: vehicles imported into Nigeria without the requisite customs duty and vehicles detained due to undervaluation, excluding those seized and condemned. Motor dealers and other Nigerians wishing to regularise their vehicle import duties are encouraged to apply through a customs-licensed agent to any of the Zonal Coordinators (A, B, C, D) with the necessary documentation.

The Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria expressed gratitude to the Command for organising the workshop and assured its members would take advantage of the opportunity provided by the service.
