Stop releasing students to welcome me, Wike warns FTC school principals
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned principal of colleges in the nation’s capital to refrain from releasing students during school hours to welcome him and his entourage while on visit to such areas.
Wike gave his warning while commissioning the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara at the permanent site of Government Secondary School Kabusa on Tuesday.
According to the Minister, the practice of bringing students out of their classrooms to line up on roads to welcome officials is bad and not welcomed.
He further appealed to school principals to prioritise the welfare of students over ceremonial protocols.
He said: “It is not in our culture, and this will be the last time to see this happen. Nobody should bring students out of their school to line up on the road. We will not accept that any longer. Our children deserve the best.”
