The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding urgent action on lingering issues or face another strike.
In a memo signed by the union’s national leadership, JOHESU expressed frustration over the government’s failure to meet their demands since their last strike was suspended in June 2023 after President Bola Tinubu promised intervention.
The union’s demands include the payment of COVID-19 hazard allowances, tax waivers for healthcare workers, and adjustments to the Consolidated Health Salary Structure.
They also seek the suspension of plans to regulate national health facilities, the implementation of a consultant cadre for pharmacists, and an upward review of the retirement age for health workers.
JOHESU warns that its members in Federal Health Institutions will commence a seven-day strike starting October 25, 2024, if the government fails to act.
An indefinite strike will follow if the issues remain unresolved.
