Before you convert your car to CNG, it is proper to understand the advantages and the disadvantages so that your decision to convert or not is an informed decision.
Advantages of CNG vehicles.
1. Converting to CNG will cut your monthly spending on fuel by over 30%. The initial amount you spend in the conversion can be recovered over time.
2. CNG as a clean fuel increases the maintenance mileage of your car and also helps your car engine to last longer than normal.
3. The exhaust and catalyst of your car will last longer because of the burn rate of CNG.
4. Factory fitted CNG engines have better performance when compared with other fuel powered CNG. (This may not apply to CNG converted engines).
5. CNG vehicles are largely environmentally friendly and saves the world from less pollution.
6. CNG vehicles has a higher ignition temperature, making more safer and less prone to fire or explosions.
Disadvantages of CNG vehicles.
1. CNG converted vehicles generally experience reduced engine power and performance due to its lower energy content. Factory fitted CNG vehicles do not experience this.
2. Converted CNG vehicles require you to sacrifice some space in your car trunk for the CNG tank.
3. The additional weight of the CNG tank may affect the suspension of your car.
4. Although CNG is becoming popular in Nigeria, refueling infrastructure is still a far cry from what it should be. So you might need to travel a distance to where you can refuel your vehicle.
5. Converting your car to CNG might incur a high initial cost, although there are several ongoing initiatives to bring down the cost and convenience of conversion.
6. CNG converted vehicles may require more specialized maintenance due to the difference in fueling system.
