According to a recent poll, the Democratic candidate is in the process of pulling away from her political rival, Donald Trump.

The Reuters-Ipsos survey published last Tuesday, September 24, indicates that Kamala Harris is ahead of the former American president by 7 points. 47% of voting intentions against 40% for the Republican candidate.

But…

Caution is advised with polls. Indeed, a margin of error must be taken into account and it could amount to 4 points. In addition, on a national scale, the overall trend is rather towards a stabilization of the gap or even a slight reduction in it, indicates BFMTV. Finally, the American election is played by indirect universal suffrage, the candidate who obtains the most votes will not specifically be the one who is elected. The result will therefore not be a function of the total number of votes but of the number of electors won. The rule being the following: “winner-takes-all”. The winner must win at least 270 of the 538 electors.

As BFMTV points out, each state has a number of electors corresponding to the number of its representatives in Congress. The uncertain states (7 in number), called swing states, are those that will change everything.
