The Nigerian Army has promised to investigate conditions at its detention facilities after a video emerged online showing soldiers complaining about overcrowding and poor feeding at the 8 Division Garrison detention facility in Sokoto State.

In the video which surfaced online on Friday, the soldiers lamented the condition of the facility and the way they were being treated.

The commentator in the video claimed that they were over 100 in the facility, and over 40 of them had been awaiting confirmation.

He also lamented their well being, saying that the food given to them is not enough. “They seize our food and don’t allow us to buy food. Four years and still under detention,” he said.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement on Monday that the army chief finds the incident “unfortunate” and has ordered an investigation to determine how widespread the problems are.

The statement partly read, “Undoubtedly, the Sokoto barracks detention facility incident is quite unfortunate and an embarrassment to the sound administration efforts of the Chief of Army Staff, to say the least.

“In line with his leadership style, the COAS has instituted an appropriate investigation into the incident to determine whether it is an isolated or widespread situation in similar detention facilities.”

The Army also said it would not tolerate the way the soldiers expressed their grievances, and those involved could face disciplinary action.

Swarm of bees kill farmer, injures two others in Osun

A swarm of bees have attacked and killed a farmer, eaving two others seriously injured in Olobe Farm, Igbajo, Osun State.

The incident, Ekwutosblog gathered occurred on Friday, April 18, 2025.

It was also gathered that the deceased, Abideen Olabiyi, who hailed from Alalade compound, Ada, was working on the farm alongside Solomon Kingsley and Olusegun Alalade when the swarm struck.

A police report from the Otan-Aiyegbaju Division of the Osun State Police Command also confirmed the incident.

The report stated that the three men were attacked suddenly and without warning.

The report partly reads: “Today Friday 18/04/2025, at about 1645 HRS, there was a complaint from one Babasanjo Alalade, male of Alalade compound Ada, Osun State, he stated that today, three of his brothers went to farm, one Abideen Olabiyi, male, Mr Solomon Kingsley and Chief Olusegun Alalade all of Alalade compound Ada, went to the farm in Olobe Farm Igbajo.”

The report noted the victim had been deposited at the Healthy Paradise Mutuary Ikirun for autopsy.

The two surviving victims are currently receiving care at an undisclosed medical facility in Ada, Osun State, where their conditions are reported to be critical.

“On getting to the farm they were attacked by bunch of bees X and as a result x Mr Abideen Olabiyi ( M) X lost his life x while the other two victims manage to escape with their lives X detectives mine visited the scene X photograph taken X corps removed and deposited at Healthy Paradise Mutuary Ikirun for autopsy while the other two victims were rushed to undisclose hospital at Ada for treatment x for your information sir X From Supol Otan Ayegbaju Division.”

Trailer crashes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the outbound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning following a trailer accident near the Berger axis in Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours, involved a lone trailer transporting a container that overturned and completely obstructed the outward-bound carriageway.

As of the time of filing this report, vehicular movement had been halted for over an hour, with the traffic gridlock extending from the Berger Bridge to the Old Toll Gate near 7Up.

The disruption has forced some motorists to drive against traffic on the inward-bound lane, further compounding the congestion.

Emergency response teams were yet to fully clear the obstruction and restore normal flow as of press time.

NAF strikes several terrorists’ enclaves in Sambisa, Southern Tumbus

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, says its personnel, under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, OPHK, on April 15, 2025, executed 2 highly successful air interdiction missions, targeting terrorist strongholds in Borno State’s Sambisa general area and the Southern Tumbuns.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force.in a statement said the first strike occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. in Kollaram, a known stronghold of insurgents.

Intelligence reports, supported by surveillance footage, confirmed the presence of high-value terrorist commanders in the area.

It said several structures, some equipped with solar panels, were identified as active terrorist hubs.

Nigerian Air Force assets carried out a precision strike on the location, eliminating several fighters and disabling key infrastructure.

A second precision strike followed at about 3:55pm in Arra, Sambisa. Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions had earlier detected clusters of terrorists, and real-time visuals confirmed the significant presence. Precision-guided munitions were employed, resulting in the effective destruction of targets and disruption of the group’s operational capabilities.

These back-to-back missions are part of a sustained air campaign designed to erode terrorist capabilities, dismantle leadership structures, and eliminate sanctuaries across Nigeria.

The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to ensuring that no location within the country offers safe haven to terrorists.
