The Nigerian police have paraded a suspect with a physical disability, referred to as a “crippled kidnapper,” in connection with kidnapping activities in Delta State.
The police often hold public parades of suspects to display their efforts in combating crime and to serve as a deterrent to others.
According to ekwutosblog , the suspected kidnapper, who was paraded by the Nigerian police in Delta State, claimed to have resorted to kidnapping due to poverty and a lack of support from the government to care for his disability.
He stated, “I went into kidnapping because I couldn’t get help from the government to cater for my condition. I have been using my wheelchair to beg for alms, but it wasn’t enough to take care of my family.”
He also allegedly mentioned that he was involved in the kidnapping of two victims, and his role was to surveil and provide information to other gang members.
However, it’s important to note that these claims have not been verified and should be treated as allegations until proven in a court of law.
However, it’s important to remember that a person’s disability does not define their actions or character, and it’s crucial to avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes or stigmatization.
The suspect’s guilt or innocence will be determined by the judicial process, and they should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
