For the Kremlin, Western countries are vulnerable to division and passage of time in their support for Ukraine. Moscow is playing for time and the US election could significantly change the situation.
Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s spokesman, spoke of fatigue in supporting Ukraine.
“Several countries, especially the United States, will soon get tired of the absurd support for the Kiev regime,” Peskov said.
This is, moreover, the main reason why the Kremlin is activating its propaganda networks in Europe.
In Russia, the US presidential campaign and the role played by Donald Trump, who is perceived as favorable to the Kremlin, are being closely observed.
Vladimir Putin has often said it: he believes that time is on his side. Moscow also knows how to systematically exploit anything that might resemble a Western weakness.
