World record holder and Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan has been eliminated from the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Paris Olympics, following a third-place finish in the first semi-final.

Amusan clocked a time of 12.55 seconds, which left her waiting anxiously for the results of the remaining semi-finals to see if she could secure a spot in the final.

Unfortunately, her hopes were dashed as faster times in the third semi-final sealed her fate.

Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent finished third with 12.44 seconds, while France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela finished fourth in 12.52 seconds, both surpassing Amusan’s time and advancing to the final.

Amusan first captured global attention at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she set a new world record in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds, breaking the previous record of 12.20 seconds set by American Kendra Harrison in 2016.

Her record-setting performance also made her the first Nigerian to hold a world record in athletics.

With Amusan’s exit, Nigeria’s chances of winning a medal at the Paris Games, which conclude on Sunday, have dimmed significantly
