Tragedy Strikes As Four Teenage Girls Drown In Jigawa

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Malkaderi village, Gagarawa Local Government Area, on Saturday morning, resulting in the drowning of four teenage girls.

The tragedy occurred around 11 a.m. when five girls ventured to swim in a local pond.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the victims have been identified as Saina’u Musa, 12; Fiddausi Ado, 11; Habiba Musa, 12; and Bahijja Musa, 13. The fifth girl, Sahura Audu, 8, was found struggling in the water.

Emergency responders, including police officers and divers, swiftly arrived at the scene following reports of the incident. They conducted a rescue operation and successfully retrieved the girls from the pond.

Unfortunately, four of them were pronounced dead at the Gagarawa Primary Health Centre, while Sahura was resuscitated and treated before being discharged.

The bodies of the deceased were released to their families for burial.

Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, AT Abdullahi, expressed his condolences to the grieving families and urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities.
