Former U.S. President Donald Trump will make a high-profile return this Saturday to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of a shocking assassination attempt during a July rally.
The attack left one attendee dead and two others injured before security forces neutralized the shooter.
During his visit, Trump will be joined by his running mate, J.D. Vance, family members of the victims, and first responders. Notably, Elon Musk is expected to make an appearance at the event.
The former president, who was grazed by a bullet in the attack, has framed the incident as a testament to his resilience, famously declaring, “he took a bullet for democracy.”
The assassination attempt, which involved shots fired from a nearby building, stunned political observers around the world, sparking bipartisan calls to de-escalate the intense political climate in the U.S.
However, the brief pause in hostilities has given way to a renewed wave of tension. President Joe Biden, who later withdrew from the race, and global leaders expressed their solidarity with Trump, emphasizing the need for civility.
The rally where the attack occurred has since become symbolic for Trump and his supporters. During his return, he is expected to honor Corey Comperatore, the fire chief killed in the shooting, and reflect on the enduring political battle leading up to the November election.
Increased security measures, including the use of protective glass, will be in place for Saturday’s event to ensure the safety of Trump and those in attendance, following concerns over the recent uptick in threats targeting the former president.
