This was according to a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Abubakar.

The statement read, “On the 3rd January 2025, at about 0100hrs, armed hoodlums suspected to be Lakurawa bandits on motorcycles invaded Alhaji Lawal Block Farm and nearby Fulani settlements located at Natsini village, along Argungu/Kangiwa road and rustled unspecified number of cows.

Many more communities in Obio/Akpor, the Local Government Area of the former Governor of Rivers State and incumbent Minister of the F.C.T, are getting brand-new transformers from the Fubara-led administration to ensure at least 18 hours of power supply as promised by the SIM Fubara-led Rivers State Government.

Recall that Governor Sim Fubara donated a transformer in August 2024 to Rumuepirikom, the community of the F.C.T Minister. Today, Ozuoba, another community in Obio/Akpor, precisely the Majesty Estate axis, received a brand-new 500 KVA transformer as a New Year gift from the promise-keeping Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.

Presenting the transformer, the Honourable Commissioner for Power, Rivers State, Prince Solomon Abel Eke, hinted that the Governor had mandated the ministry to ensure the transformer was delivered and installed owing to the genuine request of residents within that axis. He added that, despite the fact that this was the responsibility of PHED, the Governor, being a compassionate leader, had taken care of all costs, including the installation of the transformer.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Solomon Eke, also delivered another 500 KVA generator to the Warmate House Office Complex which serves as offices for the Rivers State Primary Health Care Board and the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Program (RIVCHPP).

Receiving the transformer on behalf of agencies in the complex, the Acting Executive Secretary of Rivers Contributory Health Protection Program (RIVCHPP), Dr. Vetty Agala, lauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his timely intervention, as the installation and usage of the transformers will ensure adequate power supply, which is needed to deliver quality health services.

The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, has visited the victims of the recent gas explosion that occurred in the Orazi axis of Port Harcourt.

During the visit, he expressed deep sadness over the incident and was moved to tears. He announced that the local government would cover the medical expenses of the victims.

“It’s quite unfortunate that this is happening so early in the new year,” he said. “I am deeply saddened by the number of persons affected. I was briefed about this tragic incident, which is why I am here to sympathize with those who lost their loved ones.

“As a local government, we will take responsibility for the medical bills of those injured and currently receiving treatment in the hospital. As a responsive administration, we cannot allow our people to bear this burden alone. We share in their pain,” he added.

Ambassador Ihunwo also visited the site of the explosion and announced an immediate ban on gas refilling businesses operating within residential areas in the LGA. He explained that this measure is aimed at preventing future occurrences.

“Let me announce here and now that, henceforth, no one is permitted to run a gas refilling business in residential areas within Obio/Akpor. To ensure compliance, I will establish a special committee tasked with enforcing this directive by inspecting streets and roads within the LGA.

“I urge CDC chairmen and youth leaders in the various communities to join this campaign so we can safeguard the lives and properties of our people. Anyone caught violating this ban will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.
