- Cristiano Ronaldo has criticised English pundits Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker for their criticism during Euro 2024
- Ronaldo was called out for crying after missing a penalty against Slovenia in extra time in the Round of 16
- The Al-Nassr star has called the two pundits “rats”, claiming they don’t know anything about him
Cristiano Ronaldo has blasted two English pundits who criticised his reaction to missing a penalty in Euro 2024 in Germany.
The veteran striker cried after Jan Oblak saved his extra time penalty in Portugal’s Round of 16 clashes against Slovenia.
Ronaldo headed to Euro 2024 looking to win his second continental crown, but their journey ended in the quarter-final stage.
The 39-year-old cried in extra time and was consoled by teammates. He scored his penalty in the shootout, which Portugal won 3-0 to reach the quarter-final, where they lost to France.
Ronaldo explained why he shed tears
“Even the strongest people have their [bad] days,” Ronaldo said. “I was at rock bottom when the team needed me most. I was sad at first but now I’m happy. That’s what football is. Moments, inexplicable moments,” via The Guardian.
Ronaldo registered one assist in five games at Euro 2024. The former Juventus star is aiming to play for a few more years, but it is unclear if he will be around for the 2026 World Cup.
Ronaldo blasts Shearer, Lineker
Speaking to Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo directed a brutal response to the two former England internationals.
“They don’t know nothing. It’s much easier to criticise than to appreciate what you really have. We know how the press works, if you speak [positively] nothing sells, you have to speak [negatively],” via Football365.
The former Manchester United star said he is used to criticism because he is the most followed star.
“What am I going to do? Am I going to cry and then finish my career because two rats criticised me? The world loves me! The fans love me! This is my motivation. Nobody is going to take my shine away because two guys from television that nobody knows have criticised me.”
Ronaldo has started the 2024/25 season well and is aiming to defend his Saudi Pro League Golden Boot.
