In a groundbreaking move, Uefa has announced a major shake-up of the Champions League format, starting from the 2024/25 season.
The new format will feature 36 teams competing in a single league phase, with each team playing eight matches against different opponents.
The changes aim to increase competitiveness, provide more opportunities for teams to compete against top European clubs, and create a more thrilling experience for fans.
The top eight teams will qualify automatically for the round of 16, while teams finishing between 9th and 24th will compete in a two-legged knockout phase play-off.
Similar format changes will also be applied to the Uefa Europa League and Uefa Europa Conference League, which will be renamed the Uefa Conference League.
The new format is designed to secure the positive future of European football, sustain domestic leagues, and provide more opportunities for teams to compete in European competitions.
