Primate Elijah Ayodele, spiritual leader of the Inri Evangelical Church, has expressed concerns regarding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential candidacy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket. Ayodele claims that such an invitation is an attempt to undermine Jonathan’s reputation and integrity established during his presidency.
Recent reports indicate dissatisfaction among northern elites and politicians with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, suggesting a desire for a change in leadership by the 2027 elections. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has voiced his support for Jonathan, indicating he would withdraw his own presidential aspirations if Jonathan decided to run. Mohammed believes Jonathan’s experience would benefit the country’s economy.
In response, Ayodele has advised Jonathan against participating in the 2027 election, warning that it could damage his well-established reputation. In a video statement posted on September 6, Ayodele urged Jonathan to refrain from contesting, emphasizing that he has already made a significant impact and should avoid potential harm to his legacy.
Earlier, Ayodele also called for the removal of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), amidst the ongoing fuel crisis.
